Detectives are now acting on a tip off that Madeleine McCann was stalked by human traffickers before she was snatched from a holiday apartment in Portugal. The little girl vanished while holidaying with her parents Kate and Gerry and her twin siblings in the Algarve in 2007.
Her parents had left the children in their holiday apartment while they dined on tapas in a nearby bar, going back periodically to check on them. During one such check, they realised that Maddie had vanished. While there have been many reported sightings, she has never been found.
Now officers hunting for the little girl have been given a funding extension so they can look into a new lead. Scotland Yard received a tip off that a gang of European traffickers had followed Maddie taking photos of her before snatching her from the holiday home in the popular holiday resort of Praia da Luz.
It is understood that the new line of inquiry could explain why only Maddie was taken, even though her siblings were also in the apartment. While there have been many hoax sightings, this new line of inquiry is being taken very seriously. The Met Police has been in discussions with government officals to talk about the progress of the investigation. It is understood that the funding will now give detectives leeway to continue their probe until April.
However, while Maddie’s parents Kate and Gerry have never given up hope that their little girl will be found alive, it is understood that this latest line of inquiry really is the “last throw of the dice” for the investigation. There has been criticism about the amount of money which has been thrown at the inquiry so far and it may be felt that police have no option but to give up if the investigation does not throw up any results.
