Once one of the world’s great sex symbols, Zsa Zsa Gabor was plagued by health problems later in life. Now, the final photo thought to have been taken of the socialite and actress, has emerged showing her lying in bed with her daughter Francesca Hilton by her side.
The photo was taken a couple of years ago when Francesca, who died last year, said her mother was not happy at the time. However, despite her health issues, she did survive for two more years, before passing away aged 99 with friends and family beside her in Bel Air.
The Hungarian-American had been plagued by health issues, after being partially paralysed in a car accident. She had also suffered a stroke, developed a severe throat infection and had to have her right leg amputated above the knee when an infection took hold. Earlier this year, the actress, who was renowned for having married nine times, was rushed to hospital as a result of breathing problems.
Her ninth husband, Frederic Prinz von Anhalt, 72, sid that she was fighting back and really wanted to live. He said she had never told him that she wanted to give up. He said then that the main thing was to make sure that she was not in pain.
Ms Gabor finally passed away this week after suffering a heart attack at her Bel Air home. A string of celebrities has paid tribute to the actress, who was the great aunt of socialite Paris Hilton. Fellow Hollywood royalty Joan Collins said she was so sad to hear that Ms Gabor had died, adding: “She was such fun”.
Meanwhile, the chat show host Larry King said there would only ever be one Zsa Zsa Gabor, and I Dream of Jeannie star Barbara Eden said she was delightful to be around. Meanwhile, the burlesque dancer Dita Von Teese said she was one of the “wittiest beauties”.
