Mohammed Yassar Yaqub, 27, was shot by authorities whilst on the M62 motorway in his white Audi. It was revealed afterwards that Yaqub is a father of two children.
According to reports, a firearms officer had stopped Yaqub over beliefs that he had a weapon in his vehicle, and three fatal shots were shot through the windshield of the car, killing Yaqub instantly.
The window to the passenger seat had been completely smashed and pictures of the incident show the white Audi closed off by a police vehicle which had not bared the police sign.
A History with the Authorities
Details about Yaqub’s criminal history reveal that about seven years ago he had been charged with attempted murder at Birkby, but those allegations were cleared off of him afterwards.
Meanwhile Mohammed, Yaqub’s father confirmed that his son was the man behind the wheel in the white Audi, and Mohammed is known to be a prominent businessman, as well as a known property owner.
Mr. Mohammed has not released any further comments or statements regarding the death of his son and to the examiners of Huddersfield, the area in which the incident took place.
Flashback to the Past
Yaqub was 21 years old when he was first accused of being one of the suspected shooters who had been involved in a drive-by shooting that took place in 2009 on Birkby Hall Road.
However in May of 2010 all charges were dropped against him as a result of insufficient evidence connecting his role to the case.
Friends of Yaqub took to social media to express their condolences about his death, as well as to his family. “Such sad news this morning, you were no angel but you were still one of the good guys and did not deserve this,” one of Yaqub’s friends wrote.
