KKR Qualifies for Playoffs of IPL 2018 after beating SRH by 5 wickets


KKR played its last match against SRH on May 19, 2018. The match was played at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium. The KKR became the 3rd team to qualify for playoff in IPL 2018 after beating the point table toppers SRH in their final stage match of this season.

Dinesh Karthik and Kane Williamson came into the field for the toss. Hyderabad’s Captain Williamson won the toss and elected to bat first.

First Innings

Shikar Dhawan and Shreevats Goswami opened the batting for Sun Riser Hyderabad. S. Dhawan started off the inning with a boundary. Both Dhawan and Goswami batted and scored 51 runs at the end of the 5th over.

Goswami lost his wicket on Kuldeep Yadav’s bowl in the 9th over. Kane Williamson came to bat and helped Dhawan to make 110 runs at the end of 12th over with loss of a wicket. S. Narine dropped catch of Dhawan on the first ball of 13th over when he was batting on 45 runs. Williamson lost his wicket in the same over scoring 36 runs. Dhawan reached his 32nd half-century in 38 balls at the end of 14th over. On the very first ball of 16th over Dhawan lost his wicket. Last 5 overs of 1st innings weren’t good enough for the SRH as they lost 7 wickets for 31 runs. SRH scored 172 runs in 20 overs for the loss of 9 wickets.

Second Innings

Chris Lynn and Sunil Narine opened the batting line-up for KKR. Both of the players are good strikers of the ball. They scored 30 runs in just first 2 overs of their innings. The next over was good as well as they made 11 runs in 3rd over. Shakib’s bowling skills defeated Narine and he lost his wicket in the 4th over. Rashid Khan dropped a catch & bowl chance of R. Uthappa which later proved to be very expensive one.

KKR reached 100 runs in 10.5 overs with loss of just 1 wicket. Chris Lynn made his half-century in just 36 balls. KKR were now just 65 runs away from their victory, when Chris Lynn and Robin Uthappa lost their wickets. Sandeep Sharma tried to take a difficult catch of Russel but didn’t succeed. Now KKR were just 13 runs away from their victory when Manish Pandey took the catch of Russel. KKR required 5 runs of 6 balls when Nitish Rana hit a boundary and the very next ball he lost his wicket. Dinesh Karthik scored the winning run for his team and took his team to the playoffs round.

Best Performances

  1. Dhawan and K. Williamson scored 50 and 36 runs for SRH. C. Lynn made a match-winning fifty and R. Uthappa supported the team win by adding 45 runs to the KKR chase. Prasidh Krishna (SRH) took 4 wickets and Carlos Braithwate (KKR) took 2 wickets in the match.

Chris Lynn was named man of the match. Both the teams are now in the playoffs and will be fighting for the title. Hope the best wins!
