Royal Challengers Bangalore played its last stage match against Rajasthan Royals on May 19, 2018. Their batting line-up had some of the world’s best players like Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers and Quinton de Kock but they failed to make their way to the playoffs. The match was played at Siwai Masingh Stadium.
Ajinkya Rahane and Virat Kohli came into the field for toss. Rajasthan Royals won the toss and elected to bat first.
Rahul Tripathi and Jofra Archer opened the batting line-up for the RR. Chahal began the bowling for RCB. Umesh Yadav bowled the 2nd over of the innings and took wicket of Archer. Archer got out for a duck. Ajinkya Rahane came into bat when the first wicket fell down. RR made 12 runs in 3 overs at the loss of 1 wicket. Next two overs went very well for the batting side as they made 23 runs and took the total to 35 runs at the end of 5 overs. Rahul Tripathi scored half-century on 38 balls.
Things seemed to work for Rajasthan Royals as they scored 101 runs at the end of 13th over. Umesh Yadav bowled the 14th over of the inning and took two important wickets of Rahane on the first ball and Sanju Samson on the second ball of his over. Rajasthan Royals were 149 runs for 4 wickets at the end of 19th over. They made 15 runs in the last over of the innings and took the total to 164 runs at the loss of 5 wickets.
Virat Kohli and Parthiv Patel opened the innings for RCB. They made 2 runs in the first over. P Patel hit 2 sixes in the next over. Gowtham bowled Kohli in the 3rd over of their inning. AB de Villiers came into bat at number 3 position. Both the batsmen at crease took the runs to 55 in 6th over. Parthiv got out making 33 runs by another spinner, Shreyas Gopal. Moeen Ali got out in the same over. Shreyas took Mandeep’s wicket on leg-spin in his next over. When wickets were falling, AB de Villiers made his half-century. RCB scored 96 runs at the end of 12th over. Shreyas got the most important wicket of the match, he deceived AB de Villiers.
The 16th over of the match was almost the ending point of the game when 2 wickets fell down on two consecutive balls. Tim Southee tried to make his team win but didn’t succeed when he got out on the last ball of 18th over. RCB required 35 runs in the last over, just when their last wicket fell down on the second ball. RR won the match by 30 runs.
Rahul Tripathi’s 80 runs for RR and AB de Villiers’ 50 runs for RCB are best batting performances. Shreyas Gopal’s 4 wickets for 16 runs is the best bowling performance.
RCB is out of the IPL 2018. Fans were expecting them to qualify for the playoffs but they failed to perform well. It’s the end of RCB’s journey in IPL 2018 here.
