A little girl has been given two sexually transmitted infections by her twister foster father – after being taken into care because she was suffering sexual abuse in her home. The poor seven year old had already suffered abuse at the hands of a man, 32, who was a friend of her brother’s.

She was then taken into care, only to find herself left with another monster. The foster carers she was placed with had only just been approved to look after children, and the little girl contracted gonorrhoea and chlamydia after being abused in her new home.

A serious case review has now been carried out by the Croydon Safeguarding Children Board in South London, which has warned that lessons must be learned to prevent other youngsters from suffering in the same way. Horrifying details have emerged in the report, including that the child attended school “splay legged” after she had been with her foster carers for just one night.

    Tested positive

More than a year later, the child was diagnosed with two STIs. Her foster father also tested positive for chlamydia, while her foster mother had gonorrhoea. The male foster parent is understood to have been prosecuted, although the report did not reveal exactly what had happened to him.

According to the report, there were a series of failures, including communication breakdowns, issues with staff who had just qualified along with their managers, and inadequate assessments of potential foster parents.

Chances to remove the little girl, named as Claire in the report, from the paedophile foster carers’ home seemed to have been missed as it was revealed that the child had remained in their care, despite fears voiced by a GP who thought she could have an STI. Social services officials said they had believed that they were providing a safe and caring environment for the child.
